All scholarship applications and further information about these offerings are available in the guidance office career room, and unless otherwise stated, completed applications
must be returned to Mrs. Russo in guidance by the deadline date typed on the top of the application.

 


National Helicopter Association Scholarship Fund
            Provides four undergraduate scholarship with no restriction on eligibility.  However, any students with military
            affiliation are given special consideration.  Applications due into guidance no later than November 7, 2008.
Principal’s Leadership Award Scholarship Program
            Open to seniors who have demonstrated outstanding leadership skills,
            participation in service activities, academic excellence and achievement
            in the arts and/or sciences.  Interested applicants should pick up information
            in the guidance career room and must submit required materials to
            guidance no later than November 14, 2008.
UMBC Scholars Programs
            UMBC offers competitive scholarship programs ranging from $5000 a year to $22,000 a year.  Interested
            students should submit name to guidance no later than November 12, 2008.
            CWIT Scholars : Students planning to major in computer science, computer engineering, information
                        systems, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering or another IT field
            Humanities Scholars: Students pursuing degrees in English, history, philosophy, ancient studies, classical
                        or modern languages, linguistics, American or African studies
            Linehan Artist Scholars: Pursue a degree in visual or performing arts
            Sondheim Public Affairs Scholars: Students interested in developing a fundamental understanding of public
                        policy and pursuing careers in public policy, government, or non-profit sector
            Sherman Teacher Education Scholars: Students interested in the teaching profession in the areas of
                        science, technology, engineering and math
Toyota Community Scholars
            Applicants must be high school seniors with a minimum 3.0/4.0 gpa, must be actively involved in a service
            organization or project that has a positive impact on the school or community, be a U.S. citizen, and plan
            to pursue a degree at a four year college.  Scholarships are valued at $10,000 and $20,000.  Applications
            due into guidance by November 17, 2009.
AXA Achievement Scholarship
            The AXA Achievement Scholarship offers college scholarships of $10,000
            and $25,000 to high school seniors.  Applicants must: be a United States
            citizen or legal resident; plan to enroll full time in a two year or four year
            college; demonstrate ambition and self-drive as evidenced by outstanding
            achievement in an activity in school, the community or the workplace. 
            Application is due into guidance no later than November 21, 2008.
SAE Engineering Scholarship
            This scholarship is open to qualified seniors who are interested in the study of
            engineering and related sciences.  60 corporate and university scholarships
            will be awarded.  Students must be a citizen of the United States and meet
            minimum requirements with regard to grade point average and SAT/Act scores
            as outlined in the individual scholarships.  Applications are due into guidance no
            later than November 21, 2008.
Boston University Scholarships
            Scholarship materials must be submitted to guidance by November 21, 2008 as well as an
            application to the college which must be submitted no later than December 1.
            Trustee Scholarship: Scholarship covers full tuition and fees for four years.  Applicants must have
                        exceptional SAT’s, GPA and record of volunteer service and participation in extracurricular activities.
            Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship: Four year full tuition and fees scholarship for academically gifted students
                        with proven leadership abilities and a strong commitment to social justice and community involvement.
            Alexander Graham Bell Scholarship: Full tuition scholarships to students planning to pursue a degree
                        In engineering.
Maryland Media Inc. Scholarship Program
            The goal of this program is to recruit and retain talented student journalists
            in and around Maryland.  Students will receive full in state tuition to the
            University of Maryland College Park.  Recipients will be required to work on one
            of the student publications in some capacity.  Applications are due into guidance
            no later than November 24, 2008.
Daughters of the American Revolution Essay Contest
            This essay contest is open to all students in grades 9, 10, 11 and 12.  Contest
            details are available in the guidance career room.  Essay must be submitted
            to the guidance office no later than November 24, 2008.
Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship
            This $1000 scholarship is open to seniors who have a minimum 2.8/4.0 gpa, demonstrate leadership abilities
            in school activities or through work experiences, demonstrate a strong commitment to and involvement in
            community service, and plan to attend an accredited college, university or technical school.  Interested students
            must submit a resume’ to guidance no later than December 1, 2008.
NFIB Young Entrepreneur Award
            Open to a high school senior who plans to attend an accredited two or four year college or vocational
            school and who demonstrates entrepreneurial spirit and initiative through examples such as: starting his/her
            own business; participating in organizations such as DECA, Junior Achievement, Future Business Leaders of
            America, Future Farmers of America.  Online applications must be submitted no later than December 15, 2008
            at  www.NFIB.com/YEA.
Sons of the American Revolution Essay Contest
            High school sophomores, juniors and seniors are eligible to submit an essay on the topic of an event, person,
            philosophy or ideal associated with the American Revolution, the Declaration of Independence, or the Framing
            of the United States Constitution.  Essays are due into guidance no later than December 18, 2008.
Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student Scholarship
            Scholarship is open to seniors who are U.S. citizens.  Student must be able to demonstrate
            involvement in community service, leadership and academic achievement.  Applications due
            into the guidance office no later than January 5, 2009.
Elks National Foundation Legacy Awards
            Applicants must be the child or grandchild of a living Elk who joined the order on or before
            April 1, 2006.  Applications are due into guidance no later than January 5, 2009.
Gates Millennium Scholarship
            Scholarship open to seniors who are African American, Native/Alaska American,
            Asian/Pacific Islander American and Hispanic American who have an
            unweighted GPA of at least 3.3.  Applications are due into the guidance office
            no later than January 5, 2009, but due to the extensive nature of the
            application students should begin preparing it far in advance of that date.
National Society of the Colonial Dames of America
            This essay contest is open to high school 10th, 11th and 12th grade students.  The topic is: Over the course of
            history which American leader has provided the greatest visionary leadership?  Essays are due into guidance
            no later than January 8, 2009.
American Planning Association High School Essay Contest
            This $5000 scholarship essay contest is open to high school juniors and seniors.  Students should go to
            www.planning.org/essay for complete instructions and essay topics.  Deadline for submission of
            essays is January 15, 2009.
Maryland United For Peace and Justice
            Student must submit literary work, including essays or poems, or artwork including posters, quilts, paintings,
            watercolors, videos, audiotapes or multimedia works on one of three topics.  Entries are due into guidance
            no later than January 20, 2009.
Spuck and Lib Bennett Scholarship
            This $1500 scholarship is open to seniors who plan to pursue a career in education.  Students must demonstrate
            financial need, community involvement, academic achievement and participation in extracurricular activities.
Applications due into guidance no later than February 6, 2009.
Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians
            This essay contest is open to 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade students and addresses a topic involving Irish history.
            Essays are due into guidance no later than February 27, 2009.
Maryland Delegate and Senatorial Scholarships
            Student must contact the office of the state delegate and/or senator to request an application.  A FAFSA form
            must be filed prior to March 1, 2009.
Worcester County Library Foundation Scholarship
            Open to seniors who are residents of Worcester County and plan to enroll
            in a two year or four year college.  Applications due into guidance no later
            than March 9, 2009.
Claire and Robert Moore Scholarship to College of Notre Dame
            This is a yearly $1000 scholarship to a student who will major in English at the
            College of Notre Dame.  Student must submit an application to the college
            and the scholarship application is due into the guidance office no later than
            March 9, 2009.
Elks Vocational Scholarship
            This $1000 scholarship is open to graduating students who plan to pursue an eligible vocational/technical
            course above the high school level.  Applications are due into the guidance office no later than March 13, 2009.
William T. Burbage Family Memorial Scholarship
            Applicants must have a 3.0 unweighted GPA and be able to demonstrate participation in leadership activities
            and a pride in growing up on the Eastern Shore.  Applications are due into guidance no later than March 13, 2009.
TFC Edward A. Plank, Jr. Memorial Scholarship
            Applicants must have a 3.0 unweighted GPA and write an essay addressing, “How Crime and/or Drug Abuse
            Has Affected Today’s Society.”  Applications due into guidance no later than March 23, 2009.
Dr. Joseph Z. Badros Scholarship
            Applicants for this $2000yr/4 years scholarship must demonstrate that they have the maturity, commitment and
            academic record to succeed in college.  Applicants must also demonstrate financial need.  Applications due
            into guidance no later than March 25, 2009.
Eastern Shore Builders Association
            Applicants must plan to major in architecture, engineering or a construction related field.  Applications for the
            $500 scholarship, which may be renewable for 4 years, are due into guidance no later than March 25, 2009.
Berlin/Ocean City Jaycee Memorial Scholarship
            This $1000 scholarship is open to seniors who have a minimum 2.5 unweighted GPA and can provide
            evidence of an ongoing commitment to school and community.  Applications due into the guidance office
            no later than April 1, 2009.
Green Hill Yacht and Country Club Scholarship
            Applications for the $1000 scholarship are due into guidance no later than April 8, 2009.
Pat and Dick Hazel Minority Scholarship
            Scholarship is open to minority students who plan to pursue a career in education.  Applications due into
            guidance no later than April 24, 2009.
Abbott and Fenner Scholarship
            This essay contest is open to high school juniors and seniors.  Entries should be submitted online to
            www.scholarships@abbottandfenner.com.
Dr. Paul W. Vineyard Scholarship
            $1000 scholarship open to a graduating senior who plans to major in dental hygiene.  Application due into
            guidance no later than May 27, 2009.
Drew Smith Memorial Scholarship
            Applicants must plan to major in golf turf management.  Applications due into the guidance office no later than
            May 27, 2009.
