DECATUR LIFESAVERS
Stephen Decatur High School's Decatur Lifesavers Red Cross Club has kicked off it's 1000 Lights, 1000 Lives Measles Immunization fundraiser. The pre-lighted tree, generously donated by Wal-Mart, has been adorned in school colors and placed in front of the office at Decatur. Each light on the tree symbolizes a dollar which the club will raise and for each dollar, a Measles immunization will be purchased for a child who otherwise could not afford the vaccine.
Thousands of children die each year of measles simply because they are not immunized. The club hopes to raise at least a thousand dollars for a thousand lives. Anyone wishing to make a donation to the club may contact Patti at 410-524-1732 or drop a donation off at Stephen Decatur High School. The Red Cross club will visit local businesses, in hopes that each employee will donate a dollar. Businesses contributing at least $25 will receive a red ornament with their business card attached. These special ornaments will be the only red color on the tree.

BISHOPVILLE- Al and Jeanne LaVie were the recipients of Stephen Decatur High Schools newly formed "Decatur Lifesavers" Red Cross Club's first local outreach project. The club volunteered their Sunday to come out to the LaVie's home and do exterior painting, clean the gutters, redo garden beds, cut branches, small trees and overgrowth from around the house and do much heavy lifting. Club members were joined by club advisor Ryan Cowder and club organizers Alison Sappington, Patti Miller and Madalaine How, as well as parent volunteers. As Sappington explained, "The kids did a tremendous amount of clearing and cleaning and they were very excited when they finally stepped back to see how much they accomplished and how happy it made Mr. & Mrs. Lavie."
