FUTURE EDUCATORS ASSOCIATION Advisor--Julie Sigafoos
FEA is an international program that's mission is to provide students with opportunities to explore careers in education. Our hope is that students will gain a realistic understanding of the nature of education and role of the teacher. FEA members include high school students, junior high school/middle school students, chapter advisors, and interested individuals in the field of education. FEA's goals are to strive to interest students in the field of education early in their school experience, place a strong emphasis on the recruitment of future educators with diverse ethnic, racial, social, and economic backgrounds, and strive to promote excellence in students interested in the teaching profession by promoting academic achievement, developing a positive self-image and encouraging leadership responsibilities. We enhance the quality of the school's educational program by fostering an appreciation for teaching and contributing to the smooth operation of the school.
The Decatur FEA currently has 14 members. Their activities include fundraisers, American Education Week, Teacher Appreciation Week, E'mings Homecoming Dinner, Bells at holiday time, Data match at Valentine's Day and a Silent Cake Auction at Thanksgiving. This year the American Education Week went really well. There were an abundant amount of parents in attendance. The NHS & FEA members were present all week. Food and drink were provided to visitors and classroom events and activities were provided by various classes.
