COLLEGE APPLICATION PROCESS

FAFSA Information: In order to receive college financial aid, students and their parents are required to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. To ensure the accuracy and clarity of the FAFSA forms, we will again be offering a workship to assist you in the completion of these forms. A financial aid specialist from Salisbury University will be at SDHS on Wednesday, January 9, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. To make certain that you have all of the information that you need, please bring a copy of your 2006 income tax form. Please note that both students and parents need PIN numbers. You should apply for these now at www.pin.ed.gov. Be careful when navigating the internet as there are numerous scam wesites that are formatted much like the offical FAFSA website. If you are asked to provide bank account/credit card information, or are charged a fee, you should know to stay away from that site! The early eligibility estimator, FAFSA 4caster, is available at www/FederalStudentAid.ed.gov. A PDF version of the FAFSA can be downloaded from this site or a student may request up to three copies from 1-800-4-FED-AID. The government encourages all families to file electronically, significantly speeding up the processing time. Paper applications will no longer be provided to schools.

Senior College Applications: Parents, please encourage your seniors to finish the college application process. Students should complete their resumes, write the necessary essays, get written recommendations from teachers or community members, and finish all information on the college application. They should also be requesting the necessary transcripts from the guidance office. Be mindful of deadlines! The turn around time to get the transcripts back is now approximately two weeks. In addition, please remind your student to supply guidance with copies of all college acceptance letters and scholarship offers. The January newsletter will contain a list of accepted students.
