ARTS AND MEDIA ACADEMY

The purpose of the Arts and Media Academy is:

1. To provide a unique educational experience for each student to explore visual, performing, and communications fields

2. To facilitate a sense of belonging and foster a product-oriented learning environment

3. To promote discovery learning

4. Foster a product-oriented learning environment

5. Offer Three Pathways: Visual Arts, Performing Arts, and Media Production

3 Academy Programs
Visual Arts:
Studio Art, Design and Photography
Courses taken over 4 years
Through coordinated program including art history, studio work, photography lab, and AP classes
Performing Arts:
Musical and Theatrical Concentrations
Music: (Marching and Concert Bands,
Concert and Show Choirs
Study History of Popular Music and Music Theory, and Jazz Ensemble)

Theatre: (Write and direct their own works, train in acting, technical production, and theatre history)
Media Production:
Journalism, Television Production, Yearbook and Creative Writing

Work leads to product for public display and/or distribution

Admittance into the Arts and Media Academy is through application and additional criteria related to field of study==such as Creative Writing applicants will write a one paragraph description of the biggest lie you have ever told, Drama applicants will prepare a three-minute monologue and complete an interview, and Performing applicants will prepare an audition piece.

Academy Certificate Requirements
Completion of 4 courses in concentration areas
Completion of 2 additional credits from either concentration areas or approved elective offerings
Job shadow and internship
Maintain overall 2.0 GPA
Adhere to Worcester County attendance policy
Serve as a mentor to an academy underclassman
