Stephen Decatur High school’s 2008 Homecoming Week began on Monday, with the first event on September 29th with “Dress Like the Jungle” using jungle, animal, safari or camouflage designs. Activities and designs for each day were based on the theme go on safari and “Cage the Lions”, the mascot for Queen Anne High School. Throughout the week, the class banners displayed the spirit of each grade. All events, including attendance, carried points that were tallied at the end of the week. Participation showed the overall winners, the seniors, followed by the sophomores, the juniors and the freshmen.
On Tuesday, it was dress with a “Clash/Mix Match Day”. On Tuesday night it was Smish-Smosh, a night of SDHS talent that entertained with lip syncing, musical chairs, Pin the Tail on the Lion and Dancing with the Stars. The last event even included SDHS Principal Lou Taylor dancing with his niece, senior, Amanda Pfaff. It was a full house with full talent.
Wednesday was “Dress Like a Rock or Sports Star” to help the Seahawks rock and roll over the Lions.  Wednesday night was the volleyball class competition.
Thursday was double the trouble for the Lions in  “Dress Like a Twin Day”-some students went for triplets, some teachers went for whole hallway matches and some for the buddy match. Thursday evening was the Powderpuff Football game, won by the seniors, and the Powderpuff cheerleaders won by the juniors.
On Friday, it was “Dress with a Homecoming T-Shirt Day”, the pep rally, and in the evening the football game against Queen Anne. At the pep rally, Matt Stocker was crowned Homecoming King escorted by his mother Lisa Zweifel.  Also included in the royalty lineup was freshman prince Landy Taylor (escorted by his mother Debbie Taylor), sophomore prince E.J.       As SDHS math teacher Nora Duke, for the 9th year served as Homecoming Coordinator, said, “It was a lot of fun for the kids, the parents and the community. It is a great event where we work as one and welcome back our graduates with their families and friends. Many lessons are learned from this once a year happening.”
